How do you save attachments, such as doc, mp3, wav, xls or pdf files to the SD card from email received in the Gmail app or the Mail app for other email providers?

The facinating thing about this, my friend, is that I literally have not found a way to do so. For whatever reason, when I check my e-mail with my attachments, the ones that were sent to me, I can only preview. Unless it's the ones I send, then I have a download option there.  However, you are able to download things from the browser -- which I find to be completely backwards.

You are able of course, able to do it manually from your computer and send it to the SD card, and then view it with QuickOffice/Documents to Go, etc. My friend, who is a writer, sent me five different documents on a story he wrote, I view them in my phone, even now.

If someone does have the correct answer for this, I'd love it if you helped this fellow out as I'm still searching for a way to do so.

Re: Your Android Phone and You 101

I am unable to get my phone to "mount" to my computer. The SD card shows up on the screen under computer but when I click on it to see the content I get a pop up message that says to insert a disk into the drive. Any advice would be appreciated

in the notification bar, you will see a usb icon

click on the notification, it will ask you if you want to mount the sd card to your computer

click yes, then try opening the folder on your computer

remember to unmount before unplugging from your computer

Thank you, is there a specific file that we should place music files? I can see the pictures storage location but nothing specific to mp3s.

Re: Your Android Phone and You 101

FYI from other thread....

Re: WARNING!!!! EMAIL ATTACHMENTS: DROID CAN NOT SAVE OR FORWARD

Ahh, I see what you are talking about.  I neglected to mention that I downloaded the DocsToGo app (which I use for viewing and editing any Office files on my phone).  If you preview the files using the Droid's preinstalled QuickOffice, there is no option to save the file.  I preview the files with DocsToGo and by hitting the menu button I have the option of saving the file (or emailing the file directly).

Note- another error with the email app - When you save a file to your phone, the default folder to save is SD Card/Temp/Attachments.  When you try to attach a file to your forwarded email, (again using DocsToGo) it doesn't allow you to get to the Attachments sub folder.  You can only get to SD Card/Temp.  Therefore, when you save the file to your SD Card, you need to change the location to SD Card/Temp.

(Also, I paid the $15 for the full DocsToGo version (as you have to pay on your Blackberrys or any other smartphone).  Many times I find myself needing to edit documents while on the road.  I do not know if you can save files with only the 'viewing' DocsToGo app.  I never tried before buying the full version.)

Re: Your Android Phone and You 101

I saw in another forum that you should create a folder structure on your sd card

media

   audio

        ringotnes

        notifications

        alarms

   video

   photos

OK Super Mike, here is another question for you...

How do you save a pic that you took from the camera to the SD Card?  I took a photo and the only options were to upload it to a social site, add it to a contact or make it a favorite.  The one I added to a contact is now no longer in my albums.  So I took another one and made it a "favorite"...is that the only way to save the pics for posterity?

Please help and thanks!

Any picture, any song, and photo, anything you save on your phone gets directly sent to your SD card. Nothing, I repeat, nothing gets saved to the internal memory of your phone aside from Applications. What it seemed like what happened is that when you took the photo (with the default camera I'm assuming), you didn't save it then actually set it as a contact picture. If you want to keep photos, take a picture, save, then go to the picture, set as contact, and you're done.

I have never Favorited a photo unless it's of my lady, or my dog.

How do you save it?  I could not figure that out.

Re: Your Android Phone and You 101

Okay, It looks like you are the "go-to-guy"....so is there a way to create a signature for my texts, or am I doomed?  I know I could do it with all my other phones create a customized signature, but I can't find anything to allow me to create with this phone.  I appreciate any answer you have.

Take a picture, there should be a either a check mark, or a save indication that allows you to save the picture.

As far as I know, no. You can do it for e-mails, but not Texts. Aside from the quintessential 'Mrz/Mista fInE$t" signature I don't see why you would need one.
