Adding new desktop

I'd like to add a new desktop (it does not have an internal wireless card) to my FiOS system.  I've looked at the USB adapters that are required under the online Networking support.  However, both of the adapter choices are older models and I cannot find either adapter.  I've tried Verizon support--no luck.  They just keep sending me links to information that I already know...and I don't seem to be able to call and get help on anything other than my phone service.  Any ideas?

Thanks!

I really don't think it should matter which USB adaptor you use.  The Actiontec router should work with any network card or USB adaptor rated 802.11G down to 802.11B.

Thank you, ucamuk!  That helps a lot.  I thought that might be the case but having a wireless network in my house (with multiple desktops) is new to me.  I ordered one of the adapters that was recommended as a "like new" item.  If it doesn't work, I'll try something else.  Good to know that I have options!

I have the same question.  Have you received and installed adapter yet?  I know I any g compatible adapater will work, but wanted to make sure it was 108mps capable with my airplus xtreme router.  Any recommendations?

Yep--ordered the D-link card (looks new) from Amazon.  Verizons directions are MOSTLY correct (if you are fairly savvy, you can muddle through).  Once I had finished everything, the card still would not connect (no little green lights) so...when all else fails, restart!  It works like a charm.

Which model?  Do you know if you are getting 'plus' rate of 108mbps, or standard g throughput of 54mbps?

ummm  wireless is only 54Mbps.   54 + 54 = 108Mbps = 2 simultaneous broadcasts of the same signal         Your wireless adapter\card\receiver has to be capable of receiving 2 simultaneous broadcasts to be able to utilize any pasrt of such a 'plus' rate, but the technology is ONLY 54Mbps (which means you will not get more than 54Mbps on any 'stream', only 2 streams)   ( -:

From me:

Just to clarify, RangeBooster G is compatible with Super G to achieve 108mbps?

From D-Link:

yes

To be honest, I would get a extra wired nic card. Wireless g just degrades fast. Unless the PC is right next to the router. Wireless is really a lost option you want to take. Once Fios supports wireless 802.11n I would stay away unless you can't help it.

I have actually been using the wireless g access with FIOS for over a year.  it worked great, until my wireless card died.  It's actually integrated with the motherboard.  HP replaced it once, while under warrantly.  low-end laptop, not worth replacing the motherboard again.  But willing to spend 30$ on a usb adapter to have the flexibility of working in the kitchen, again, rather than the basement.  boot-up with wired nic actually slower than wireless, i think it does dhcp back to verizon.
