a nifty little video from Actiontec regarding basic port forwarding.   might be good to have stickied for new users to the forum?

Basic Port Forwarding

The MI424WR Verizon FiOS Router ships with a long list of preconfigured settings for popular applications. If you know the specific port address etc that needs to be opened in the Router. Please go the page titled "How to enable ADVANCED Port Forwarding on the MI424WR Verizon FiOS Router."

  1. On any computer that is connected to the Internet, type http://192.168.1.1 in the web browser window and then press Enter.
  2. Enter your User Name and Password.
  3. Click the "Firewall Settings" icon, located on the middle of the top bar.
  4. Click "Yes" to proceed.
  5. Click "Port Forwarding", in the menu on the left.
  6. Click "Add", located in red near the bottom left corner.
  7. Select the device or computer that you want to port forward from.
  8. Click the drop down menu for Protocol and select the application that you are using and click "Apply".  Congratulations, basic port forwarding is now enabled on the MI424WR Verizon FiOS Router

    Click "Port Forwarding", in the menu on the left.

    Click "Add", located in red near the bottom left corner.

  7. Step 7

    The "Add Port Forwarding Rule" screen appears. Click the arrows next to "Specify Address". A drop down menu appears. Select the name of the device that you want to port forward.

  8. Step 8

    Select the type of Protocol from the Protocol drop down menu.

  9. Step 9

    Leave "WAN Connection Type" set to "All Broadband Devices".

  10. Step 10

    Change "Forward to Port" to say "Specify", then enter the device or applications port number that you need to forward.

  11. Step 11

    Make sure that the "Always" is selected from "When should this rule occur?", then click Apply.

  12. Step 12

    You'll see the rule listed as "unresolved" initially. Click Refresh and the rule should turn to Green.
