Can't get port to open on MI424WR router.

I'm trying to forward ports 20, 21, and 82. I've forwarded them correctly, but for some reason or another, they won't open up. I have W7 and the firewall for it is off, so that's not my problem.

Anyhelp?

Probably a simple misconfiguration.

Did you try using GRC to Can you show us what you put in the port forwarding rule?

  1. What revision of the router do you have and what is the firmware level?
  2. That screenshot looks like old firmware.
  3. How is your router conneccted to the ONT?

Your FTP port forward does not look correct.

It appears to only allow connections from source port 21.  An FTP client can originate a connection on any port.

It also shows that it  can connect to any port on your router.

Also, the WAN connection is specified as Broadband Ethernet, while the Verizon PF for the STB is Broadband Coax.

There are always three port numbers involved in port forwarding.

  • Source port - This is the originating port on the client.  You should always specify ANY.
  • Destination port - This is the outside port on your router.
  • Target (forward to) port - This is the port on the local machine that the application is listening on.

Here's what a FTP port forward looks like on current firmware:

Note that the protocol column specifies "Any->21", while yours specifies "21->Any".

Any chance of getting a working link to that picture?

Also, I'm using 4.0.16.56.0.10.11.6

The port forwarding is misconfigured.

You have TCP 21 -> Any

It should be

TCP Any -> 21

Also for ftp you will need to open other ports.  The norm is to use passive mode so you will configure the server to use a range of ports to use for the pas mode connections.  Make the range follow on to whichever you use for the primary port and then forward them all in one command

I wouldn't recoommend opening port 21 thru the router.  You'll have hordes of people hacking away day and anight trying to log into it.  You're better off opening a non-standard port and then changing you're ftp server to listen on the non standard port

What does the forwarding rule look like now?

How is the server set up?

Try setting up DMZ host for that device? It should open everything.
