Can't log into http://192.168.1.1/

I can't figure out how to get into this. At first I thought the website was messed or something when it typed 2 or 4 letters with one letter, or deleting 2 when I typed a number, but I was told that that was normal and to ignore it. Even when ignoring it, however, I cannot get in. I have an Actiontec router and I've been told that the username is "admin" and the password is "password1," and that the default pass was "password," but neither of those worked. The person who I got to set it up for me in the first place insists that he did not change these (even though I'm fairly certain he did), and refuses to help me in any way. Is there any way that I can log in without reseting my router?

This has been discussed many times here, If you reset the router by pressing the reset button, it will let you set your own password. Or better yet try the router's serial number, because everyone in the world knew the password that everyone had, and malware could exploit this fact with a properly written script. Verizon changed the passwords to match the router serial number. Now they are all different. The person that set it up did not change it, Verizon support did for security reasons, and your safety.

Is that so? Well, would the user name still be the same then?

Also, which number is the serial number? The one under the barcode?

Admin if it was not changed.

I would say try that number and if it does not work, just reset your router by pushing the reset button in the little hole in the back of the router. After it resets and you get the green internet light, you will be able to access it without a password and it will ask for you to add one. Remember after a reset any custom settings you may have made for the wireless or other purposes will be lost. Let's hope you have had luck with that number.

Do you think that "Admin" is case sensitive? Well either way, the number under the bar code didn't work.

Reset the router and you will be prompted to enter a NEW userid of your choice and a NEW password of your choice - this is dependant on you having received the firmware upgrade pushed from verizon.  If you didn't receive the firmware upgrade then the userid will be admin (not case sensitive) and either the password password (case sensitive - lower case).

Re: Can't log into http://192.168.1.1/

Was really hoping it wouldn't come to that, but I guess that's the final option. Well, thanks for the information. But do you think it would effect the other people living in the house? We have DVRs and XBoxes and things like that that rely on the router, so there's worry that resetting the router will cause issues with that. I know all settings will be set to their default stage, but we're not sure that we'll be able to solve any problems that may show up.

As you've never logged on to the router one would assume it's at default settings already, unless your buddy who changed the password and won't tell you what it is also made some modifications to the router settings to allow themself remote access to it, all the more reason to reset it!!!

Well he's like a roomate, so that's not really a problem. He just completely forgot it, and I'm not sure as to what may or may not have been changed. Basically, I'd like to know of any possible problems that may arise before I do it. :smileytongue:
