I have installed FIOS TV and Phone within the last 30 days. My current wireless network is a Linksys BEFCMU10 cable modem and WRT610N V1 Simultaneous Dual N Band Wireless router through Comcast.. Everything is fine, but my son's Xbox live is far away and the wireless reception is just okay. I'm planning to move the Xbox even **bleep**her away but closer to our FIOS router. So, I have ordered FIOS internet which should improve my son's wireless Xbox Live reception.
i have the FIOS DVR media center. The Verizon sales rep says I can hook the Xbox directly to the media center. But, everything I read on the forums says Xbox Live is connected to FIOS in a wireless setting. Can I get to the Internet through the media center to support Xbox live? None of the literature I read says that internet communication is supported on the FIOS DVR media center. If I can connect the Xbox to the media center and get to Xbox Live, it will eliminate one problem. I would appreciate confirmation on this issue. If not, I have to go wireless between the FIOS router and Xbox Live and need to understand what to do to make the Xbox lIve talk to the FIOS router.
However, I don't think that the Verizon wireless router will have a strong enough signal reach my in home office. I don't want to solve one problem and create another. I would like to keep the Linksys cable modem and router but have the signal run through the FIOS router. Is this doable? I haven't been able to find an answer in the forums. This would allow me to keep the wireless network up in the rest of the home.
Thank you for your time and help.

These are the various router configs that will work with FiOS - you can definetly use the linksys with the fios router, and I would personally encourage it, the fios is a g router, and the linksys is a n which is far superior. check out the various configs at that website.

1] media center will not provide you with internet signal.
2] once fios internet is installed by tech, you will get a wireless b and g compatible router. so the modem will be of no use. but you can configure the fios router to forward to linksys router if you prefer to. so linksys router will broadcast signal in your whole home. allthough tech support will only provide support to connect laptops, pc to fios router. dont worry if you have any questions about connecting linksys to fios router, all forum contributors are here ![]()

Assuming that you have no static IP addresses on your network, you could try reconfiguring your existing Linksys router before the Verizon tech arrives. Change the IP address from the default of 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1 (note the difference in the third number.) Verify that all of your existing network devices are still working properly. You will most likely need to reboot them or issue the ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew commands from the command prompt in order to get them to pick up new IP addresses.
Assuming that everything works fine, you should then be able to plug your existing router into the FiOS router. Ask the installation tech to disable the wireless signal in the FiOS router as well.
Alternatively you could ask the verizon tech to set their router address to something other than 192.168.1.1, but the tech who performed my installation wanted no parts of that plan. It's probably a good idea to do it their way just in case you need tech suppoprt down the road.

I've tried to change the actiontec IP's before, and to be honest it's just not worth it. I am sure it's doable, but with how RIDICULOUSLY easy it is to do on a linksys, it just makes more sense to do it there, instead of at the actiontec.
