Can't believe it could be the openvpn addition. If so nobody would be use the firmware flash as according to that the router is basically unusable. To get to the internet from a device behind the Asus router should be a no brainer as in a cascaded router setup there are no special needs to be set in either router. Did you try making the Asus router wan port non-static and just let it get a dhcp address from the Verizon router?
