Connecting my DLink DIR-655 Router to the Actiontec MI424

I just got 25/15 FiOS installed. When the tech's did the intall, they connected the Actiontec in my bedroom and used the existing ethernet cable to connect to my DLink DIR-655 gaming router in my office.  The DLINK hasmy main PC, a NAS and a couple other devices connected to it.

Internet works fine on the main PC, which is the only check I assume the installers had to do, but the problem I have now is that everything connected to my DIR-655 is hidden to the outside due to the firewall.  I need to access my NAS from work via ftp, which I am no longer to do, as I cannot see it through this setup. Additionally running the Verizon media software on my main PC does not work, as none of the cable boxes can see it.

I read through the forums and some seriously conflicting advice on how to setup a router connected to the actiontec properly. Ultimately, I would love to have the Actiontec operate as just a modem and use my DLINK as the primary router, but from what I have read, the Actiontec is what provides data to the 3 cableboxe listings along with my DVR, etc.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Thnaks.

For the ftp side you can just build a port forward rule in the actiontec to the address of the dlink router and put another port forward rule there to go to the nas.

What is the Verizon media software?  I guess I don't have it as I have exactly your setup and all my VZ software works ok..

If they plugged you in LAN to WAN then you are subnetted and you won't be able to see anything behind the 2nd router without adding routing rules. That is also why the media manager doesn't work. You have a couple of options, leave as is and add routing and port forward rules or set the 2nd router as a bridge (lan to lan with dhcp off). Here is a link to the different networking options with FIOS.

I have already tried setting the DMZ on the Actiontek to the DLINK router, but still have the same problems.

I tried disabling the DHCP on the DLINK and then couldnt access anything and had to do a reset, I think I will read through the link you sent me and try those steps more carefully, as I dont think I changed the IP and subnet of the DLINK before I disabled the DHCP server on it. I'll try it tonight.
