Download Speed not what I'm paying for.

So recently(like 3-4 months) I've been trying to watch netflix and it's just horrendous. I've tried my pc, my xbox and my phone. The only thing that isn't terrible quality is when I watch via my phone and I'm using my data network. Now I know that Netflix and Verizon have been having problems, but I don't care. I'm paying you(verizon) for my internet speed and if you can't come through then that's a major problem. So I'm just wondering if you will be crediting me for the full amount of my internet bill for the past few months because I have not been receiving the speeds that I am paying you for?

These are peer to peer forums. You aren't speaking to Verizon here.

As previously stated - this is a forum for end users.  Verizon people (other than the forum moderators) do not look at these postings.  Concerning the issue with FIOS and Netflix this means

The people who know don't talk, and the people who talk don't know.

If you search for Neflix here you will see that the issue has been going on for a long time and there are many postings about it.  None of them (the postings) will help you.

I have ZERO problems with Netflix and never have had any.  No buffering, no pixillation, no issues whatsoever.

I suspect that it may be because I don't use the Verizon DNS servers, rather amd using OpenDNS.  You may want to try them or Google DNS and see if you still have issues.

I've never had issues either, I use Open DNS and  also Level3's DNS servers.

Also make sure you ask netflix for a similiar credit. you pay them too, and they aren't delivering either.

Reason I posted here is because that's what their support says to do. I wouldn't ask Netflix for a similar credit because they are delivering. Their obligation is to deliver the movie, which they have. Unfortunately Verizon is either capping the bandwidth or their network can't handle the traffic. I'm just frustrated because i pay for something and then I don't receive it. It's like buying a hot dog and only receiving a bun.

How are they delivering did they give you the super great hd quality you asked them for, or did they just give you the bun?

did they give you the bun because they have too many customers and sold all the hot dogs, and that's all they have left on the truck?  That's actually a decent analogy   😄

Bottom line, They choose what internet provider they have and how they send you traffic.   they had some low par third rate CDN partners for a long time (*cough cough cogent cough cough*) and niw they got rid of them.

is your verizon slow ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE KNOWN FREE WORLD?

if not, and every other website sends you info fast, then how is netflix not held to that same standard?

tell them to get their act together.

For your benefit they have, and they fired their old isp's and are going direct to Verizon for Verizon Customers, and have brokered similiar deals with AT&T and Comcast so it should be getting better soon.

Folks in NY and Texas and now PA are starting to see relief.

While i get what you're saying about netflix. The issue is that I'm not gettig the bandwidth I pay verizon for. Netflix is giving me the movie that i asked for, the quality is due to the verizon network. If their network can't handle high traffic then they need to upgrade.

Half of my house uses cablevision and when i go onto that network and use netflix it's like magic and it works. Netflix is entirely different than any other site also. They send large amounts of data continuously while this page sends a small amount of data one time. It's like if you have a clogged hose, little bits of water come through but getting a full force of water isn't gonna happen until you buy a new hose. The hose coming into my house is verizon's network, they need to upgrade.

Only problem is, that netflix chooses the hose based on what kind of device you have.  Get an apple tv on Verizon FiOS and like Magic, Netflix routes you differently

In a little known, but public fact, anyone who is on Comcast and using Apple TV to stream Netflix wasn’t having quality problems. The reason for this is that Netflix is using Level 3 and Limelight to stream their content specifically to the Apple TV device. What this shows is that Netflix is the one that decides and controls how they get their content to each device and whether they do it via their own servers or a third party. Netflix decides which third party CDNs to use and when Netflix uses their own CDN, they decide whom to buy transit from, with what capacity, in what locations and how many connections they buy, from the transit provider. Netflix is the one in control of this, not Comcast or any ISP.

I think we're all glad netflix choose a different hose.
