Hey guys,
I currently have fios internet 10 download 2 upload speeds. Over the past 2 weeks, it has be relatively slow around 4-5 download speeds. the upload 2 has been consistent. I have resetted my router 2-3 times a day and over a course of 2 hrs it will bogg down to 5 dowload speeds again. Anyone have any idea how this can be fixed??? It stinks because I am paying for the 10 & 2 service and I am not receiving that. Avg speeds are 5 & 2. Let me know if there is anything I can do on my end, b4 I raise hell.
thanks,
Vic

Need to know a few more things about your setup....Wired or wireless? XP or Vista? What's the RWIN on the machines? Have they been optimized at www.verizon.net/optimizesettings?

I am also having internet performance problems, more than I had with my previous cable modem, and I believe it is due to lost packets. In wireshark I am seeing a lot of retransmissions and lost segments. To isolate the problem I did a traceroute to a destination at 11:50PM EST 11 Dec:
1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms Wireless_Broadband_Router.home [192.168.1.1]
2 5 ms 5 ms 4 ms 96.231.199.1
3 5 ms 5 ms 4 ms G11-1-661.LCR-06.WASHDC.verizon-gni.net [130.81.
104.180]
4 5 ms 6 ms 4 ms P15-3.LCR-01.PTLDOR.verizon-gni.net [130.81.28.1
46]
5 8 ms 9 ms 7 ms 0.so-5-1-0.XT2.DCA5.ALTER.NET [152.63.36.213]
6 9 ms 7 ms 7 ms 0.so-6-1-0.XT2.DCA5.ALTER.NET [152.63.42.189]
7 9 ms 17 ms 8 ms GigabitEthernet7-0-0.GW9.DCA5.ALTER.NET [152.63.
40.21]
8 17 ms 15 ms 14 ms [63.81.63.50]
9 15 ms 15 ms 15 ms 65.216.151.126
10 * 12 ms 15 ms [65.216.151.114]
.....
I then ran pings from the router (to remove my PC from the equation) to hops along the path:
130.81.28.146 100/100 transmitted, 100/100 received, 0% loss <- Good so far
152.63.36.213 100/100 transmitted, 85/100 received, 15% loss <- Pretty grim
65.216.151.114 100/100 transmitted, 82/100 received, 18% loss <- End destination
Looks like my packets are being dropped at 0.so-5-1-0.XT2.DCA5.ALTER.NET. If my analysis is correct, then my internet problem isn't with FIOS but with Verizon's peering arrangements. Is is possible that my previous ISP has better peering arrangements than Verizon?
