Re: Fios 35/35 Internet Upgrade

Thanks again. I called this afternnon and discussed your point. I tried again this morning and can not get higher han 18 up. They said that there is a Florida problem (an internal email memo just came out) which they are working on. There is no resolution date yet but they are working on the "windows atmosphere" re: optimal settings on send-receive buffers. He said the 611 TEL LAB ONT I have is capable of the 29 upload, that swapping it for a 612 would not make any difference. He said that 612 is available for business. But since the problem "may" not be the ONT but rather the "programing" on their end in Florida, swapping it to a 612 is something they may or may not do now for me. He send the request up to the reapir folks and they are to call me back with 48 hours to let me know if they will swap to 612 ONT. I told them I would like it swapped and have the 29 upload until they figure the Florida fix. I will post again when I get the call back.

I agree with them on the 18 up, because you should be able to get the 29mbps upload. Since you can not and the have stated problems in Florida, I hope they get them resolved. But afterwards to get anymore than 29 I believe you would need the 612.

As for the other post, I do not know about the Motorola equipment, and I have not heard about any limits either up or down. The AFC/Tellabs was only limited to 29 on uploads and downloads have been tested to 50 or more.

I wish you both the best of luck.

Re: Fios 35/35 Internet Upgrade

Be very careful on dropping and changing your service.  When I dropped the fios tv and went to just phone and internet they took away my 20 speed as they no longer offer it......  Huh, I was using 20.  Instead, if I wanted faster speed than 15/2  which I didnt' realize I was changed to (I had 20/5),  I have to pay more for the 25.  Not hardly.

I did not receive a call. Another tech which was doing an install in the office next door told me to optime to the 20/5 because of something related to a port that the 35/35 optimizer does not work well with,

I ran the 20/5 optimizer and got up to 25 upload sunday. Then a Tech showed up Monday while I was out and ran a speedtest.verizon.net on one of my pc's and got 34 updload. He left the result up on the screenand I saw them. I tried again and got to 27 up load. Have not been able to get 34 again. They range from 25-27.5 upload.

I will keep inquiring and testing it to see if 34 was a fluke or the upload speed I can expect will range from 25-34 (34 being not the norm). Thaks for your help.

Re: Fios 35/35 Internet Upgrade

I also recently upgraded to 35/35Mbps.  Based on my readings here-I checked and my upload speed was only 6Mbps but down speed was 37.  A reboot of my OIT and router fixed the issue.  The speed issue got fixed overnight.  My speed check after the reboot of the VZ equipment last night was still 6Mbps, but this morning it was 35 after reboot of my PC

Used the chat function with service, and they rebooted my OIT and my VX router.  After rebooting my computer, the next day speed check was 35/35!!!  Note several speed check sites show 35 down and 35 up.  But Speakeasy with NY (I live in PA) shows 6Mbps up speed so it seems there is an error or limit on the speakeasy test site.  I am confident that my up speed has significantly improved as even a government speed site indicated 22Mbps UP

Re: Fios 35/35 Internet Upgrade

am i the only one that gets 35 down 36 up on verizon's speed test.. however speedtest.net still shows 35 down and 7.77 up...

i'm supposed to be getting 35/35...

i've had my router replaced a few times... and my ont is supposedly a 612 because of the moca connection, the tech said..

he had no idea why im not seeing 35 up from other test sites... any ideas?

i'm running all macs, so i haven't really seen an optimizer..

i did download, install, and restart: broadband tuner (posted on apple.com/downloads back in 2005...)

any advice would greatly be appreciated!

Re: Fios 35/35 Internet Upgrade

the problem is that a lot of speedtest sites have problems with testing upload speeds in this range.

For example, if you go to speedtest.net that is just a grouping of testing locations. Any star on the screen will have several test locations to choose from. Some will test you OK. Some are not able to handle high speed uploads. So check several, if any of them say that you are getting somewhere close to the 35, then likely you are.

Also remember, no matter how fast your upload is, you will still be limited in what ever the other side can take it from you. You may be able to send at 30 but if they can only take it at 10 it will only go at 10. Usually not an issue on uploads, but its still something to keep in mind.

Re: Fios 35/35 Internet Upgrade

Verizon tech support called me back yesterday. They are aware of a problem in FLORIDA that is limiting the upload on 35/35 to high 20's for upload. They are working on the problem. There are many many customers in FLORIDA having this issue. (Not being able to get 35 upload on the 35/35 package with any ONT inclusive of the 612). At this time they do not have a resolution date. The tech suggested that optimizing for lower speed 20/5 has shown a more stable and consistent upload speed in the higher end of 20mps. He also did not comment on what the billing people would do to credit or not in light of the lack of advertised upload speed.
