How to connect to ONT using Eithernet?

Hello Folks,

I want to connect ONT through eithernet - Can someone help me find out how to do it? I am fairly technical and have been able to connect to the ethernet port of ONT - However there is no internet connectivity - Do I need to call on help line to get it switched?  Apparently my ONT is only 100mbps - seems like an old unit.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,

Danish

Hey there. You did the physical part, now you need to call Verizon and ask them to provision you for ethernet. It takes a few minutes, but once they flick the switch on their end, you'll be good to go. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply - -- the help line is on a long wait right now and the fios chat guy is asking me all sort of questions 🙂 - I have no idea why though.

Lets see how it goes. I will otherwise just put my phone on the hold of 20 minutes to get somebody on the phone.

You also might want to consider waiting until tomorrow if things aren't going smoothly today. Not meaning to offend anybody, but I've never been a big fan of weekend/holiday tech support staff - and not just with Verizon. 🙂

haha - good call - I think I might just have to wait for Monday to get this sorted. 20 minutes on chat already -- this is most patient chat i have tried in a long time on any tech support. Being a technical person, it is some time hard to give out plain nice answers to dumb questions 😉

If you have FiOS TV, be aware that you'll need hardware to bridge between the Ethernet network and the MoCA network used by the STBs.  There are several different ways to do this.  This page helps:

Enjoy!

Huh??

The only hardware he needs is the ethernet cable to connect the WAN port of the router to the rj45 jack in the ont.

The bridging between the Moca and ethernet Lans is done internally in the router.

You don't want to be on chat.

You need to call Verizon Fios technical support - 1-800-837-4966 - and tell them that you want to cnage the provisioning from Moca to ethernet.

Should take about 15 minutes.

If the OP uses the Actiontec, this is true.  Typically people who switch to Ethernet WAN are planning on replacing the the Actiontec.

Rather than make a bunch of guesses as to what the OP wants to do, I simply pointed him to a good reference that will help him find a solution whatever his plans are.

If the OP wishes to share his plans with us, we can make further recommendation.  However, this will most likely be a re-hash of what's in the DSL reports FiOS FAQ.

Have fun.

So I called tech support and got some clarification on this topic. According to t/s the rj45 jack is just an alternate source for the ont/stb to connect to the cable modem and each other. So, you cannot connect a playstation/xbox/smart tv/etc to the rj45 jack for internet connection.
