Hi-- I have had FIOS fr several months-- I have long had problems streaming Video--From YouTube to Television-- anything.
I do run Firefox 13 -- most of the time (yes --I KNOW it's 'not supported') -- but I've used Firefox for YEARS -- I used to have Cox Cable --never any issues there.
I have tweaked and troubleshot until my fingers bled-- no improvement. I'm fairly tech-savvy. I built this PC.
It IS getting old-- it's an XPSP3 machine-- with 2 Gigs of DDR2 RAM and ALL updates
-- but I feel as though FIOS' performance has never been what it SHOULD be.
I finally gave in and ran a speed test at Verizon's site in Internet Explorer -- I viewed the detailed results which I will post below-- pehaps someone can help me tune this thing --so it flies as it should.
I have the 50MB/s down and 20 up -- and I can't watch a lousy YouTube video all the way through. LOL.

OK-- now I have another "silly" issue... I cannot logon to the router itelf. If I try the default login values-- the passowrd fiels enters 3 invisible characters for every ONE typed. If I reset the router to defaults-- I'll lose all the configuration settings too, right. Is there a base set of network parameters I can use to retore the setup afterwards ??

The FiOS router, unless you're on PPPoE (meaning you got connected a few years ago) will be good to go after a reset if you were to reset it. Typically the login for the ActionTec is admin as the username, and the passcode being the Bar coded Serial Number on the router. You can give that a try. Failing that, unless you have a backup copy of the router's config file, once you reset it you will need to reconfigure the router with the settings you might have had in it before.
Be aware that the 3 characters being filled in is meant as a "Security" feature. There's nothing wrong with your typing or keyboard if that's happening. Enter in your password as intended and it should work. Also after a reset, the router will ask you to change the password for it right away.

I don't have the actiontec... I have the Verizon 1424WR router-- set up as wired...Will it still be OK after reset ??

Look for the little sticker on the router; It lists all sorts of good things - the first of which is your login p-word
So it should be admin
whatever is on the sticker
It's nanny-Verizon telling you they don't like admin, admin anymore as it is not secure
