Well I did it. I built a cheap under $200 Linux PC. Tried Fedora Linux and read about many others. Ended up loading IPCop and it works great! Better then any router you can buy. From what I hear it will run on a 386. But throughput may e an issue with FIOS speeds. Refurbished PCs out there for $100 and add a NIC and you have it.
