My advice is now and always will be to get your own wireless router.

The manufacurer of their routers Actiontec is second rate....skip that..more like tenth rate when it comes to reliability.

Verizon is so behind the times before they actually released wireless N and its no better than the previous models with lost connection and subpar trhoughput. You are forced to use their router to get a connection to their network and get TV programming but thats all I use it for. The wireless is turned off, its IP is set to static and I have an AC router DMZ'd though the Verizon router. I upgraded to the 75/35 service, N protocol cannot make full use of this service! Even the verizon tech told me he was ashamed that they were charging $99 for these as they were told that people getting the 75/35 would get them for free. Bottom line is the capable speed of the FIOS network far surpasses what their routers can handle!

My current network set up is the old router as a connection to their network, wireless and router turned off with my router DMZ'd

ASUS AC RT68U wireless router with Intel wireless AC card in laptop and desktop, everything else goes on the 2.4GHZ G network.

Try this with a verizon wireless router...NOT HAPPENING!

Actually it does happen for a lot of people. Everyones results will vary. There are to many factors to determain speed, not just a simple router alone. I get exactly what I pay for and my neighbor who has the 75/35 tier has no issues either on the rev. i. To say it wont happen with a verizon router is false.

Justin like I said I went through 5 verizon routers. Changing to aes has nothing to do with it. Anyways back to my question If I get the gigE wireless N router is it covered by verizon like it is right now meaning I can get replacement for free? Do I have to send back the current verizon router I am using when I get the new one?

Changes to AES only apply to Wireless N ?

Nope.  Strongly recommended that everyone use wpa2/aes if possible.  But its mandatory to get top Wireless-n speeds on Verizon's (and many other) routers.
