I might retire an older DLINK-DIR655 wireless router. I can't quite tell if the speed of my Actiontec MI424WR-GEN3I supports wireless N speeds of 300Mbps.

The MI424WR-GEN3I does not support 300Mbps WiFi. It's max WiFi speed is 130Mbps.
If you want faster speeds and/or dual-band, you'll want a different router. The Actiontec WCB300N is another option, as it easily adds dual-band and faster speeds to an existing FiOS network. You can read about it here:
