Guys, it's time to hit Verizon where it hurts. If you are having lag issues during east coast prime time in your game while people on other ISPs are having none, post here, post your game, your location, and some WinMTR and trace route reports here. Also link to all the forum posts you are aware of with people suffering from this crap FiOS calls service and also link up to all the places in which you are spreading your message to people about why to not subscribe to this terrible service.

Let's hit their wallets. Let's drop their revenue.

Location: Rhode Island

Game: Final Fantasy XIV - Sargatanas Server

I will shortly post a WinMTR with and without VPN to show you that this crap is on Verizon.

My route shows that I'm going through Level3Montreal.  I have a double whammy.  Ping spikes at 8 and 9, and at 10 I have massive packet loss around 20% (did ping tests for all of those routes).

Sometimes I go through Alter.net twice, sometimes I don't.

I have studied this route like the back of my hand.

I NEED to be rerouted.  Final Fantasy is not P2P there should be nothing wrong.  Verizon has poor agreements with level3 it would seem.

-You see Verizon actually knows about this.  They just REFUSE to do anything about it unless more people complain.

So HERE WE ARE!!!????

Please note that Level3 uses ICMP De-prioritization on their routers. Here's a traceroute from the datacenter I work at (which has it's own global backbone with no dependence on Verizon). I made sure that I would route through Level3 to match your route as closely as possible.

Notice, once I reach Square Enix, the latency is consistent. You should begin your ping tests starting at what I have for Hops 12, and ending at Hop 14. MTRs if you have them.

I wouldn't be surprised if the latency were totally garbage to Level3 between Verizon and Level3. It's a shame we can't see what is in Level3's network between BR1.NYC1.ALTER.NET and car2.montreal2.Level3.net.

Here's a traceroute from Level3 themselves from Buffalo, NY...

 1 ae-11-11.car2.Montreal2.Level3.net (4.69.141.1) 233.763 ms 42.138 ms 218.649 ms
 2 ae-11-11.car2.Montreal2.Level3.net (4.69.141.1) 233.508 ms 207.281 ms 213.191 ms
 3 ORMUCO-COMM.car2.Montreal2.Level3.net (4.59.178.74) 35.415 ms 35.940 ms 35.748 ms
 4 * * *
 5 * * *

and another, from their Montreal POP:

  1 ae-11-11.car2.Montreal2.Level3.net (4.69.141.1) 0 msec 0 msec 0 msec
  2 ORMUCO-COMM.car2.Montreal2.Level3.net (4.59.178.74) 0 msec 0 msec 0 msec
  3 * * *
  4 * * *
  5 * * *

... finally one from their NYC POP...

Traceroute results from New York, NY to 199.91.189.30(199.91.189.30)

  1 ae-11-11.car2.Montreal2.Level3.net (4.69.141.1) 8.12 ms 8.02 ms 8.03 ms
  2 ae-11-11.car2.Montreal2.Level3.net (4.69.141.1) 8.03 ms 8.08 ms 8.06 ms
  3 0.0.0.0 * * *
  4 0.0.0.0 * * *

Given what I've seen, a game update caused a lot of the lagging issues. Perhaps it's high load. Perhaps it is transit and it's all coincidence. Or perhaps Square Enix broke their game. DICE, a company that is known for making broken games thanks to EA, has similar problems. I could be holding 1ms ping to a server in Toronto, ON at the office, and still be flying jets and driving Jeeps like I have 700 ping. Battlefield 4, specifically the game I'm referencing, has been out for some time.
