NOT using the Verizon modem

Newbie

I have a Motorola SBG6782-AC modem that I want to use with FIOS.  I only have internet not tv.

I have no problem using it with Comcast or any other service, talking to FIOS is like talking to someone back in the 1980's they have no idea what I am talking about.

Does anyone actually know what to do?

I tried to talk them through it but they were totally clueless.

First, FiOS doesn't use a modem.  It uses a router between your ONT and your Internet devices.

If you only have Interenet service you can use your own router.  You don't need the Verizon unit.

Connect the WAN port on your router to your ONT via Ethernet cable and then tell Verizon tech support you want to have your ONT provisioned for Ethernet rather than coax.  That should do it.  Your router should be assigned a WAN IP address by the Verizon system and you should be up and running.

The Motorola SBG6782-AC modem uses DOCSIS technology.  DOCSIS is NOT compatible with FIOS.

In other words, you can NOT use your SBG6782-AC modem with FIOS.
