New router won't connect to internet

I just moved into a new apartment. The previous tenant had Fios and I am able to connect to the internet without a problem using the old router. However, when I install the new router (which is the upgraded model) I am unable to connect to the internet. The "WAN Coax" light is green but the "Internet" light remains a steady orange. I know that I am getting internet, since I can continue to connect with orange router, but am at a loss for how to connect with my new router.

Any ideas?

EDIT: The new router is the Actiontec M1424WR Rev I

you need to break the DHCP lease - http://www.dslreports.com/faq/15898

I would recommend the 7 step procedure with the old router connected. Then plug in the new one and let us know!

Thanks! I didn't have the log-in info for the old router so couldn't do the 7-step option, but unplugging everything overnight seemed to do the trick.

Logon to the old router

select My Network

select network connections

select broadband connection - ethernet or coax, whichever is connected

select configure connection

select RELEASE on the DHCP Lease line

click OK

disconnect the old router and replace with the new router

Should be OK now

@viafax999, I was struggling with this issue for over 3 hours now. I followed your suggestion, and it was fixed. Thank you. I now remember the Verizon tech that installed my connection told me about it, but I forgot.

Just had the same problem with the new router I got from fios. Phone support was usless, as their robotic service kept connecting me to a number that was no longer in service. Hooked the old router back up and found this thread. Problem solved and new router is now working.

Thanks
