No Battery in new Internet installation - constant BEEPING

Just had FIOS internet installed, and began hearing that dreaded beeping. After hours of investigation, I learned that, without a battery installed, the unit will beep. The technician did not install a battery. Verizon customer service says, since I do not have phone service, I do not need a battery. While this is technically true, I DON'T WANT TO HEAR CONSTANT BEEPING.

I am finding that my solutions are (a) buy a (completely useless) battery and install it; (b) push the silence alarm button every day; or (c) cancel FIOS and get a cable modem.

I am thankful that I was smart enougn to NOT sign a contract, so when I cancel Verizon there will be no early termination fees.

Newer ONT's should not beep if a battery is not connected. Only the light on the ont should be lit. Check the battery terminals inside and make sure they aren't connected to anything.

The newer battery back up units do not beep. Did you have the equipment already present when you moved in? If so call Verizon and tell them you need a new BBU installed.
