Periodic Fios Internet interruptions/brief outages

Since switching from Fios Internet-only service to Fios TV, I've been plagued with periodic service interruptions/outages about every five days. Sometimes my system is able to recover; at other times, I've had to reboot my router. Since I have the dreaded "nonstandard" set-up, I'm not hopeful of getting help directly from Verizon, and am hoping that someone else can think of a solution.

Here are the details. Because I have AT&T CallVantage VOIP service, I have to use their VOIP gateway -- a D-link DVG-5102s router-like device. And past experience taught me that the AT&T box has to be "first in line."

So my configuration includes (in order):

--The AT&T router/gateway connects via Ethernet cable to my Fios inside box, with the Ethernet connecting to the WAN port on the AT&T box.

--An ethernet cable then connects from AT&T's LAN port to the WAN port of my regular router, a D-Link DIR-655. I use this as my main router for its Draft-N and Gigabit Ethernet capabilities.

--The Fios Actiontec MI424WR box (connected via coax to my TVs) then connects via Ethernet cables to my main D-Link router (WAN port to LAN port). Wi-Fi is turned off on the Actiontec, so its only function (for me, at least) is to retrieve and feed program guide data to the TVs.

This set-up works fine in almost every regard. I'm receiving the Program Guide data consistently on my TVs, and my Internet access is fine, with full rated speed.

The one problem is that I seem to lose my Internet connection about every five days. Sometimes it restores itself; other times, I've had to power off and turn back on the AT&T router/gateway (which is first in line, remember). That's kind of a nuisance, especially since each interruption causes AT&T to think I may have moved my phones, requiring me to re-confirm my location. And after a longer interruption, my phones ring once when the Internet connection is restored.

Because there's some regularity to the interruptions, I suspected that something might be off in my AT&T (D-link DVG-5102s) configuration. That's set up for PPPoE Dynamic IP connections, with the "Always On" choice selected in the Reconnect Mode section. So it doesn't look like it should be logging off at all.

I can't imagine that my main router (behind the AT&T device) could be causing log-off problems. But for what it's worth: It's set up for Dynamic IP (DHCP) connections to the Internet. The DHCP Lease Time is set for 14400 minutes. (I pushed it higher than normal just in case that was a problem.)

I'm certain that the connection is being lost before or at the AT&T router (not just internally with my main router), since I lose my phone service when these interruptions happen. AT&T shouldn't care what happens with my equipment that's later in the chain.

So... Maybe FIOS really is having temporary outages about every five days, but I haven't seen any confirmation of that from other postings here. If it's not actual FIOS interruptions, then I have to suspect something in my very-nonstandard set-up.

And I welcome any suggestions...

That's a interesting setup you got there. In theory you really shouldnt have a problem, if you believe there is an outage in your area for DATA, call in at 1-888-553-1555 and an agent should be able to verify if there is an outage...or feel free to ping me with some of your information. In your PPOE settings for the AT&T router, make sure you specify a username and password such as USERNAME: verizon, and PASSWORD: verizon.  It doesnt matter what you put in that field, just as long as there is something.  Also, maybe AT&T offers just those little phone devices that you could use, I know Vontage offered a little phone adapter (linksys PAP2 ) that just acted like a client.

Quite frankly, I doubt your loosing your connection from Fios...to my knowledge we don't put timers on our system to drop connections every 5 days.  If verizon did that they would be shooting themselves in the foot as they are implementing Voip themselves.

Every VoiP i've seen so far went as follows...Verizon's Ont feeds the Actiontec router via ethernet...Voip unit is fed from the Actiontec, which then feeds your computer or routers.

Here 's a post I've found on Dslreports.com you may find interesting...

You made the statement "Actiontec, so its only function (for me, at least) is to retrieve and feed program guide data to the TVs"  I was under the impression that the actiontec also supplied ip addresses to all the set top boxes making them addressable from our tech's via ip...
