Recently upgraded from 15/5 to 25/25.  When I had the 15/5 all of my speed tests on my wireless laptop were right on the money at 15/5.  Since I have upgraded I am getting like 8-9/15 .  Any ideas of what could be happening?  This is only for wireless it seems the hard wired connection is getting the correct speeds.  Also when I tried to do a verizon speed test it would not work it just kept sending numbers back and forth from the two computers.

HELP!!!

When it comes to wireless, there are innumberable things that can degrade performance. The main issue is that the spectrum used for 802.11 is  unlicensed, and shared among a number of allowed  applications.  As long as the intent of the use is NOT to cause interference, the uses are all permitted. It is likely that your wireless signal is being intereferred with by either other devices, or other networks in the area.

If you are lucky, you can overcome the interference by switching to a different wireless channel on the router, if not, the only way you are going to get more speed is probably by going to an 802.11n access point (your computers will find the wireless signal no matter what channel it is on). Changing the orientation of the router, or the antenna at one end or the other may also improve things, but in general it is tough to get an 802.11b/g connection much past about 10mbps. What is in theory possible, and what you can get in the real, noisy, world are often quite different.

The reality is that most consider speed tests on wireless networks to be of very limited use because there are so many ways for wireless degrade that having nothing to do with the hardwired connection to the Internet at the router.
