Since the last week of December, I have been getting slow downloads from Switzerland.

The service I am subscribed to reports having a 10MB/s pipe.  The owner of the service can't account for it and reports that another subscriber in Germany is getting 2MB/s.

At best, I am averaging less that 100KB/s.  :-(

those are exceptional traceroutes all the way out to switzerland!

LOL - Yes they are good.

I have tested via HTTP and HTTPS and both yield about the same.  Even using WGET instead of a Browser.  :-(

are there other sites in switzerland that host downloads, that you could try.   If you get similiar results from nearly all swiss websites - then you can assume a possible transatlantic trunking problem.    If one of the websites out in there produces more respectable results, then you can know that it's specific to that website at least.

Good suggestion. However I know of no other services in Switzerland to test with.

Verizon is only responsible for speed/latency until the 4th hop (when it gets to their core backbone routers).  That's "their" portion of your Internet connection, which is uniformly excellent everywhere in their FiOS footprint.

Everything tests fine through Level3's backbone routers, domestic routes are fine.  The issue starts between 9th & 10th hop:

That makes sense. I figured it may be a Router in the path but I didn't see telia.net as the problem. I guess I didn't look close enough but I did figure the Trace Route would "help". Now what ? Do I wait it out or is there a way telia.net [ TeliaSonera International Carrier ] can be contacted ?

The problem was not at TeliaSonera. I tested the same site from Comcast and it was just as slow. Thus taking Verizon and Telia.Net out of the picture.
