Verizon 802.11n not working as advertised

Just installed new Verizon 802.11n router and am having trouble.  We have 50/25 Mbps service and that checks out fine when tested via Ethernet connection.  However, WIFI speed is only around 16 Mbps download speed.  Also note that my computers wireless adapter is also listed as 802.11n.  Distance to the router, signal strength, etc is not a problem as I did the wireless speed test with literally 4 feet between my computer and the router.

I spent a lot of time with the Verizon router support people, with them checking settings, rebooting router and modem, etc, etc.  No difference.  The fix is that they are going to send me a new router, but my guess it won't fix anything so I'm sending this message out for others' thoughts.

For those familiar with the app, I ran inSSIDer to look at my "network".  The weird thing is that it shows my network as being a 802.11g...note the 'g' NOT 'n'.  I assume inSSIDer is displaying/working correctly as I can see some of my neighbors running the 802.11n protocol.  So I'm guessing that I'm not getting the WIFI speed improvement from the new 'n' router because it's not operating as an 'n', but rather a 'g'.

Does anybody have any thoughts?  I realize WIFI speed is never as good as an Ethernet connection, but it should be better than 16 Mbps, yes?  Thoughts on inSSIDer showing it as a 'g' rather than a 'n'?  Is some setting somewhere messed up?  As part of the tech service support they reset the settings to 'factory default' even though the only thing I changed was the network ID and password to match the older router/all the computers we have.  Obviously, that didn't do anything.

Thanks in advance for any help on this!

If you login to the router, - wireless settings- advanced...- 802.11 b/g/n mode - IS this set to performance mode?

I assume you have mi424WR REv I  (NOTE this  is not the default setting)

Make sure the router wifi security is set to WPS2 and that's it in performance mode.
