Hello everyone!
First post here.
Did a few searches but have not found a definitive answer, so decided to post my question(s):
I just switched from Optimum cable to FiOS. With cable I had a cable modem which was connected to my AirPort Extreme and that acted as a DHCP/WAP/NAT/Firewall/etc device.
Now that I have a VZ router which does all those things too - my AirPort complained about double-NAT (naturally), so I had to switch it to a "Bridge-mode". I still use it for WAP because of Wireless N, but DHCP functionality now rests with the VZ router.
VZ router is connected to WAN via coax, not Ethernet!
My question is: can I ditch the VZ router completely and keep using ONLY AirPort Extreme?
Is it possible to connect the Ethernet cable from the OTN (the white box) directly into the AirPort? Or does it still need some sort of a "modem" in between? Is the Ethernet WAN port on the white box even live? Or do I need to have them "enable" it first? Can I use my old Cable Modem (or are the standards completely different)?
Has anyone done something along these lines? Care to enlighten me, please?
All I want is to have a WAN IP come into my AirPort and have it deal with DHCP and the rest of the functionality. I really don't need two routers...
Thanks in advance!

Depends...Do you have Fios TV service. If NO, then yes you can. If you do have Fios tv, the answer is still yes with several caveats. you would need some additional equipmet. We can discuss this if needed.

Yes

No

Not right now but a call to tech support can change that
Or do I need to have them "enable" it first?
See previous answer.

Nope, different standards

Many of us have done something similar. Each one a little differently depending on what we need to accomplish. The most critical question for you before we get into this is.. Do you have Fios TV? That is what could throw a monkey wrench into the answers.

Can you suggest a way to use airport extreme and a switch with verizon router Action pack MI....either 1) verizon router as primary and other devices as switch or 2) airport extreme as primary and verizon router as a bridge.
Thanks

There are numerous ways to connect two routers with FIOS. As spacedebris said, it depends on your situation, such as how you connected to the ONT and whether you have FIOS-TV or not. See the following FAQ for various possible configurations and their respective advantages and disadvantages.
What are the tradeoffs between the various router configurations
