What is FiOS' most powerful router?

Yesterday I called to find out how to boost our router's signal, since it doens not reach well from one side of our house to the other.  I was told there is a more powerful router available form Verizon but that I would have to pay $105.  I think this is ridiculous, since I am paying verizon for my connectivity to work.  However, if we do decide to do that, I would like to shop around.  Can anyone tell me the make and model of this more powerful router, so I can compare with amazon or some other dealer?  We currently have the MI424WR.

The router Verizon is trying to sell you is the MI424WR, revision I.  This is an 802.11n router with two antennas.  It's maximum link speed is 130Mbps.  It is a single band (2.4GHz) router.  In my experience, it does not provide any better coverage than the 802.11g version of this router.  Link speeds are faster, but not for all of my equipment.

I think you'll be happier with a dual band (5.0GHz / 2.4GHz) access point or router from a well known vendor.  It could even cost less than what Verizon charges for the 802.11n MI424WR rev I.

Good Luck.

I had (have) the old WESTELL A90-9100em rev. B wireless Router and was also not happy with the wireless signal range inside my home, so I spent the $100 (was $75 at time I got it + Tax & Shipping) on buying the Actiontec MI424WR rev. I Gig-E wireless-N Router from the Verizon FiOS Accessories Store ( https://teleproducts.verizon.com/fios/index.cfm/eh/DisplayProducts ) and IMO it's NO BETTER than the Westell, still barely get 1 Signal bar from one end of house (router placement) to the other, and sometimes will drop off completely. IMO you'll be wasting the money$  buying the MI424WR rev. I Gig-E wireless-N Router !

If you're using Verizon FiOS, which I assume you are ...

I'd try using a MoCA LAN Bridge to achieve an additional WiFi access point at another location in the house.

I'm in the middle of trying to set up something similar myself, as unfortunately the FiOS Tech I recently had

out to the house was clueless about any of this and said it couldn't be done, when in fact I know others have done it.

Some resources for you to research about it ...

@smith6612 - dunvarna has a separate thead on his issue here:

It would be best to keep discussion of his issue in that thread.
