What is up with this internet speed spike?

Lately my internet speed has been all over the place, I  have done the online support and it didnt help. It worked fine when they "tested" it aka made me restart my modem.

and moments later at another nearby server.

I only have the one computer on and I am paying for 75Mb/s ( megabits). Then it spikes back to my normal speed.

During the time of the speed test, I was the only one online, the only other verizon service that was running was our TV.

Questions:

-What can I make verizon do to solve this issue?

Edit: these tests are on a wired connection.

And now its back to normal:

my biggest issue is it basically kicks me out of some games due to the spike.

It could have nothing to do with your connection.  I've seen the same thing a few times.  But when I picked a differnet speed test server the results were what I expect.  The last time, with a server in my own state, I was getting results between 2Mbps and 20Mbps.  With a server over a 1000 miles away, I consistently got 80+Mbps.   That lasted for over 2 days before my defaut server returned to normal.

During that same period, the default server on the Verizon speed test timed out.  But results were good when I picked a different server.

Presumably, this type of results is area dependent and will effect performance on some sites but not others.

Results can change on location, time of day, net traffic, varies...

yes but at the time i got kicked off my game and the time mark on the speed tests indicate that it is deffinatly off peak hours, and the fact that I am getting kicked out of games is a major issue.

and as far as using different servers, it doesnt matter. When the internet starts acting up it is the same with any sever I speed test at, the next time it does it ill test over 30 severs if that will prove that its something on verzions end that needs to be fixed.

I am finding DNS servers playing a role in the spikes. Not sure why. I am no network engineer. I have switched all my DNS servers to resolve to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. For some reason it solved some of my PS3 issues. Check some of my other posts to see my personal results. Not saying they will fix yours, but it worked for me for some reason.
