When Can I Get FiOS? Been trying 5+ years!

Hi all,

I have been on the so-called notification list and have been calling Verizon periodically for at least 5 years, practically begging for FiOS.  The neighbors behind me (who are on a smiliar small cul-de-sac) as well as those alongside of me (on the main street) all have availability. What about me??!!

A few months ago when I called again to ask for service, I provided the addresses of these nieghbors. The rep told me he'd 'email engineering' and would get back to me 'in about a week' with an ETA or an update as to why service cannot be provided.  I never heard back, of course.

Today I called and the rep gave me the exact same story, except that this time she said that 'for some reason the system won't accept the order request' so she would 'ask her supervisor to email engineering' because 'he has a friend over there'. She also promised to call me back 'in about a week'.  When I said this was the same thing they told me months ago, she said that rep probably never followed through because the system wouldn't accept the order in the first place.

I have been infuriated with the Cable company for a very long time now, but since my town in its infinite wisdom has contracted with this particular cable company for at least the 22 years I've been here, I have no other alternative (and not interested in a dish).  I am already a Verizon customer (phone and DSL) - why wouldn't they want to add that third component to my bill? I'm standing here with my wallet ready!!

My husband said he saw a FiOS van around the corner last week - now he wants to chase down the technician and see about doing it 'on the side' (I told him that's not a good idea). But this just shows how fed up and anxious we are to switch.

What gives? How can neighbors whose front door is 60 feet away from mine have FiOS, but I can't??

Suggestions??

Thanks.

I pointed out your posting to some very attentive Verizon Employees. Neighbors 60 Ft away have, it and you can not. It sounds like an engineering or database issue. They may contact you for personal private information. If they do you will see the envelope turn gold next to the search button at the top right of this page, and it will show you the number of private messages you have. Use that link to access your private messages. You may get a response here first.

Let us see if these employees do better for you.

Be careful what you wish for... you just might get it.  Verizon is one of the absolute worst companies on the planet for customer service.  Literally.  I deal with companies on other people's behalf, and I'm all too famliar with dozens of companies' customer service departments.  Verizon and the electric companies are, without a doubt, the absolute most atrocious "services" that exist.

Don't be shocked you didn't get a call back.  They have never once called back - not once - when they said they would.  In fact, I was supposed to get a call back today from Verizon regarding a large credit they owe a customer.  No call back, of course.  They NEVER do.  It's up to you to reach them and (attempt to) get answers.

And god forbid you should ever have a dispute.  I have another client who signed up for FiOS several years ago, after being with Comcast for many years.  He switched back to Comcast after 2 months, because Verizon grossly overcharged him (by hundreds of dollars), and attempted to justify their unwillingness to honor the introductory rate they agreed to IN WRITING.  It was an absolute nightmare of a process.

Every once in a while, you might come across a decent representative, but those occurrences are few & far between.  They have improved slightly over the past few years, but nothing worth giving them a gold star for.

Just be warned... and prepared.  Get everything in writing, and record all of your conversations, and even then, expect a headache.

PS - I accidentally posted this under a friend's login - the name here (monotony) is NOT the poster, and this in no way is meant to represent his opinion.  I would delete the post all together, but it doesn't give me the option.

Monotony or NOT

I do not work for Verizon or get any freebies for being here. But have been a very happy customer since FiOS first launched, so your mileage may very. No company is perfect, and I too have had issues now and then. But a little patience and perseverance goes a long way. That is one of the main reasons I have participated here. I had Fios for three years prior to this community launch, and was here in the early days. So there are some wonderful people here, and I have never found that there was not someone willing to reach out and help other customers when possible. Otherwise there are other methods of escalating issues when all else fails. Like a response from an Administrator and an Employee that are caring and attentive enough to jump right in and get to the bottom of the issue at hand. This is a Peer to Peer support community where customers help other customers, but Verizon does participate and does care about there customers, or potential customers.

Best Regards

Prisaz CL

PS.

I only wish you could have found this community, and found satisfaction prior to forming such an opinion. Monotony only having two posts has not spent much time here either.
