I've noticed something strange, for most of the week, I haven't been able to access my amex account from home or work (we use FiOS at work too) and tonight I did some troubleshooting with Amex. After trying various ways to connect and different browsers, they are sure they aren't having a problem and when I log in via my Tmobile wifi hotspot, there's no problem, even on the same machine, with the same browser.
Based on that, I ran a tracert and here's what I'm seeing. Any ideas?:

Possibly something wrong at american express or something with your browser.
Working fine for me and I even go through one of the same servers. note american express does block DNS attacks and so the full tracert never completes.
Mine shows
