having speed issues with fios on my 10/2 plan

speedtest.net shows slowdowns in Mbps to 9, 8, 6, 4, 1, and sometimes it just stops.

speedtest.verizon.net shows similar results, in the 9's mostly, but often 3's, 4's.  Techs say this is 'normal' and 'nothing is wrong'  these results are hard-wired on both a pc and a mac.  techs are bullies and give advice that isn't relevant.

Have you tried some other servers on Speedtest.net to rule out the server being an issue? Have you tried some of the solid NDT Tests for speed testing?

Try this: http://web100.rit.edu:7123/

While you're at it, even though you are hardwired make sure you don't have any sort of application, such as P2P applications and also make sure you don't have anyone or anything trying to leech your Internet through MoCa or Wireless. The router should clue into this sort of activity if you were to log into it at http://192.168.1.1/ with the default username of admin and the password being your router's serial number.

can you run two traceroutes, one when service is working well WHILE hardwired, and one when it isn't working well WHILE hardwired

that might give us a clue as to whats going on.

Also run your VZ.net speed test and post the detailed results for us too please.

Are you sure this is FIOS (as in fiber optics) or is this DSL (on your copper phone lines).

I don't recall them offering asymmetic plans such as 10/2.

EDIT: Scratch that, wasn't thinking that 10/2 is outside range of DSL, so you must have FIOS.
