Missing Fear Net - Channel 197

All of a sudden I no longer have a channel - Fear Net #197.  If I go to the guide the channel is listed but no longer accessable. Recently we received an email talking about a number of channels being re-located but I do not recall 197 to be in the mix.  It seems as thoough since I have had FIOS I have lost more channels than I have gained.  Hate to go through the hassel of changing providers but Verizon refuses to provide the same TV content as their competion in their base price so there is little reason to remain with their package.

You should have seen several messages about this including on you STB.

Fearnet has shutdown operation.  Its parent company choosing to merge some of its programming into other channels they own (and that you do get from Verizon), and to discard the rest.  It went dark 7/30/14

They had a farewell message up on their website, but now the website has also gone dark.

TNS explained it, but I want to add that Fios actually has more channels over all then most providers. Someone posted a link that showed how many channels each provider has and fios was I believe 3rd next to Bright House and Charter so if you think going elsewhere will give you more channels, think again.

You also might want to check your pdf bills on your account online and the message center on your stb/dvr menu where it important information like this are given ahead of time.

That is not true and you're in for quite a shock when you decide to switch.

I find it odd that a silver and a bronze contributor are trying to tell me how wonderful Verizon's offerings are compared to a competitor's. For your information when it comes to TV Comcast has verizon topped. The reason I know that is because I have Comcast at my summer home and they offer so much more they make Verizon's plan look bare bones. Yes verizon has a ton of channels but I do not need Spanish or the other language channels. FIOS may have a great add campaign but that is about it. When my contract expires I am walking over to Comcast.

How is it odd? You are on a Verizon forum.

Everyone will have a different opinion on every provider based on their own experience. It's a matter of what you prefer, find a better value, etc..

No, Fios isnt better then other providers in some areas of the U.S., but in others they are.

I've had Charter, Directv, Dish, Comcast, and Brighthouse throughout my life and personally Fios has been the best for me and I'll pick Fios over any provider.  The big reason what I didnt like about Comcast was they had no special prices where I lived because they were the only provider in the area and the prices were very high and they just kept raising them. Cable would also go out a lot. Here we have Verizon and BrightHouse as the main 2 and Verizon beats Brighthouse by a good $10-$20 a month even out of contract and promo prices.

As far as channels go, there is a chart (as mentioned in an above post) on avsforums updated as of July that lists how many HD channels every provider has (doesnt include SD because most never watch them anymore) and you can believe it or not, but Fios is 4th with 155. ATT was first at 193, but Comcast was at 10th place with only 103 HD channels. They sure don't offer more HD channels then Fios.

If you prefer Comcast then go for it. That's the great thing about competition. We can go with the provider we prefer. It's your money, spend it how you want.

Sorry Dave but I could NOT disagree with you more, Comcast PALES in comparison and yes we have Comcast in our shore house as well (because FiOS is not available). I live outside Philly and was a Comcast customer until FiOS became available in 2008. I switched immediately as soon as it showed up. I do not regret it for a single second, FiOS is superior to Comcast in every way. We also have a house in Cape May, NJ where FiOS is not available so we are stuck with Comcast (tried Satelitte but having it go out every single time it rained killed that for us). Comparing the two, it's like night and day, we pay MORE for Comcast and get less (fewer movie channels, fewer HD channels, just less).

Enjoy Comcast.

I shouldn't be, but I am continually amazed at how many posts we keep getting about this channel going away.

If one has the ability to get to this forum and make a post, then that same one should be able to see the other topics on this same channel.  Or...just start with google.  I type in "fearnet", and the first link is their official site, which redirects to Chiller.  Hmm, maybe something's up with the channel.

Second link is the Wikipedia article that is completely in the past tense, and shows a closed date of July 30, 2014.
