seriously though... Depending on where you live it IS a part of a regular basic channel package.
NESN is available in New England only (other then a few CT counties).
If you live outside of New England, it is NOT available on cable/satellite companies. However they offer a NESN National channel for them. It is a separate NESN channel for those outside of New England. It replaces and Red Sox and Bruins games, with other programming, however. Brighthouse Michigan did add it couple of years ago.
Since Red Sox / Bruins are regional to Boston/New England MLB & NHL guidelines do not allow them to air outside of the Boston/New England area, and why you have to buy MLB Extra Innings, or NHL Center Ice Premium PPV channels
