The New Custom TV plans

After hearing and seeing all the ads, I had to believe that these new plans would end up costing more, not less. So, I went and looked at the channel lineups tonight to see what was in each pack. To get even close to what I have with the Extreme HD plan, and have the channels I want, I'd have to add at least 3 and probably 4 packs beyond the 2 "free" ones.

What is worse, is several channels that I and my family currently watch would not be available at all. These include:
Palladia
AXS TV
Cooking
Military History

and more.

Can someone explain why I would ever want to switch?

If at some point we are forced to go to Custom TV, I will have to seriously consider my alternatives, since there are 2 cable companies in my neighborhood in addition to FIOS, and of course all the streaming services that are becoming more available and more affordable.

Don't expect us to be forced to custom tv and then lose channels.

Custom TV is a choice for those that want it.

If you want or need to save money, here is your option.

Like always, you make your choices.

Why would they ever force people into custom? It will never happen. Custom is for those that hardly ever watch tv or watch very few channels like I do. It's not for everyone which is why they still offer the 3 other levels of channel tiers.

For me custom works because all of the channels I watch are within the 2 included packs. I also save $20 a month between dropping from preferred and I no longer have to pay the regional sports network fee.

It makes more sense to go preferred/extreme/ultimate over custom if one needs more then the 2 included channel packs. Custom is a good option for some, but not all.

I guess I am cyncial enough to believe that they will eliminate the tiers and move to exclusively offering the Custom TV, which will cost most people more.

Yea it will never happen when there's other competitors. lol

There's also contracts with network providers that will prevent it.

Of course Verizon will only be in the northeast as CA, FL and TX are going to be Frontier at some point in 2016 so custom may disapear all together in those markets. It will be interesting to see what happens when Frontier takes over.
