Re: What's Going On With Your Guide?

I'm also very unhappy with the new guide.

Is there any way I can change it?  I cannot see it well enough, or clearly - it's very distracting and slow.  Please let me know if this can be changed.  Thanks much,

Re: What's Going On With Your Guide?

I thought I was going blind or hallucinating when the new guide came. How dare Verizon make these choices without permission and while they get our money. Fed up, thinking about going back to Comcast. Baltmore MD 21228

Re: What's Going On With Your Guide?

[ Edited ]

I, along with other people here, have figured out and responded with the solution to the problem just about every time someone posts about it.  I'll post it here for my last time because I'm feeling like a broken record.  I'm not meaning to sound rude or annoyed but it may help for you to read some of the other posts here which have the solution posted.  It just gets tiring to keep seeing the same exact complaint over and over again when the solution is really straightforward and when it has been posted here.

The problem is either with having an outdated STB or an analog TV.  If your STB is a 6xxx series, you need the updated 7xxx series box.  Call customer service and ask for a replacement.  From what I have read here, this has been the problem for people whose TV Guide display was slow and/or not displaying what it was supposed to show or just not doing what it was supposed to.  If you have the updated STB but the graphics are just hard on your eyes with fuzziness because of the colors clashing and bleeding into each other, then it's probably because your TV is analog.  That was my problem so I replaced it with a flatscreen and that solved it.  The resolution on an analog TV is limited and can't handle the HD guide with the digital display.

I was complaining about this myself in the beginning but from what I have learned, those are your choices.  Too many people here get so upset to the point of taking it so personally and just waiting for something to change.  This is an upgrade.  Verizon isn't going to knock at your door and ask if this is OK.  Now that I have resolved my issue, I like the new display.   When the technology changes, the equipment has to be sufficient to accommodate it.

Re: What's Going On With Your Guide?

DITTO!  The new channel guide is hard to differentiate types of channels, it's hard to navigate, it's cluttered and hard to read.  Luckily, both of the boxes I rent have not yet updated...so I have one TV that has the good FORMER channel guide...and one that I don't watch any more!

I suppose I can save $9.95 by having Verizon come and get the box that displays the new channel guide.

The new format STINKS!  At least give us the choice of accepting the new format or staying with the old one!

Downgraded Guide

I agree the new guide is not as helpful as the old one.  To start with the colors are weak and look almost blurred.

I did think some tweaking was in order but the results are not good.

For everyone who is complaining, please at least include the model(s) of the STB(s) and type of TV(s) (LCD, plasma, tube, etc) you have. While there is nothing you or anyone else can do about the actual colors or the fonts themselves, there may be some options that you can change that will improve what you see.

And if you have 6xxx or 2500 boxes you should give serious consideration to asking Verizon to replace them with 7xxx boxes because I feel pretty certain you will never be happy using those.

Re: Downgraded Guide

Good luck Justin.  I'm going to let you take over on this one. :smileyhappy:

Did you see the same complaint that was posted yet again immediately after mine, mine which repeats the same recommendations that we had come up with?  I'm not picking on anyone but I definitely have to see the humor in this.

Maybe you should work for Verizon.  I agree that it's important to be specific with the informatiion about your equipment so the help being offered can work better.

Re: What's Going On With Your Guide?

the new guide truly is horrible. I can't even see the guide, why did we have an option to remain with previous guide. I've been looking for a reason to reduce my bill, now I don't have a reason to pay for three boxes and a DVD when I can't read the **bleep** guide. Verizon really screwed up with this update.

For only looking at subscribed channels, you don't have to mess with changing your Favorites button (unless you only have specific channels on it).  To only view subscribed channels, do the following (only works in 1.9):

-Go to Menu

--Go to Settings

-Go to Television

-Go to Last Viewed Guide State

-Select Enable

Now, select Guide on your remote and then select Options on your remote.  Select "Subscribed Channels."  Now, when you go into the Guide, you will only see the channels you subscribe to.  Please note it will also show Video on Demand channels and PPV channels, even if you don't get those, as you have the opportunity to purchase them.

I tried the subscribed channels option but it doesn't show the correct channels. For example, it doesn't show 550 USA HD which I do get but it does show 668 Planet Green HD which I don't get - when I switch to it I get the "you are not subscribed to this channel display". Is there any way to get it to show the correct channels?

Re: What's Going On With Your Guide?

I also had a negative reaction to the new guide. The white lettering on light blue background was fuzzy and hard for 60 year old eyes to read clearly. And, it showed fewer channels at a time than the old guide as well as fewer time slots.  I have the QIP 7200 series DVR and an analog TV. Yes, I had the guide set to SD. I didn't know about the classic option until today so didn't try it.

Today I installed a new HD TV in place of the analog one. Now, the guide looks more like it used to with different background colors for the different types of programs - no more white on baby blue. It shows almost twice as many channels as on the analog tv.
