what happened to the hd golf channel?  It used to be at 590 on my changer and now when I switch to 590, the information box states hd golf but I get outdoors stuff, wrestling, etc.

Right now The Golf Channel shares time with the channel Versus. In December they will split and each have their own HD channel.

thanks for the info.   I just wonder why I was able to get the golf channel HD for a couple of weeks and now it is gone?

You must have previously tuned to it when Golf Channel was on. They share parts of the day. I don't know the specific hours that each one is on.
