I have Fios TV service and use a Motorola DCT-700 digital adapter on one of my old, analog TVs. I know the digital adapter doesn't display the channel guide or any "extras" that you need a STB for. But can I get it to display channel numbers and/or names on the TV screen as I change channels? Right now, it doesn't display anything and there's no way to know what channel I'm tuned into.

I had this problem, I unplugged the box overnight, it was ok after rebooting in the morning.

You don't need to unplug overnight, just unplug for 10 to 15 seconds to force the box to reboot and the on-screen channel display will return.

Yep, this worked. Thanks for your help. I can now see channel numbers.
I have what looks to be the same digital converter in my office connected to Comcast, and that one displays channel names as well as numbers. I guess Verizon doesn't support that functionality. Oh well, at least I can now see numbers.

The reason for the difference between Comcast and Verizon with the "same box" is that Verizon uses IP (via MoCA) for channel / guide info and Comcast uses an OOB (out of band) RF channel. The Comcast box also will supoort ON DEMAND beacuase they use a QAM channel and not an IP feed. The DCT700 does not have MoCA (IP over coax) support in the hardware.
