After doing the unplug reboot, the STB DVR keeps crashing down.  Started today.

[ Edited ]

This started hitting one of my DVRs last week -- typically several times a day I have to unplug to reset -- and last night hit my second DVR too.

Re: DVR keeps crashing

My DVR has somehow picked the most inopportune time to rebbot. Lately it reboots around 10PM for some reason, i thought it was picking up updates but that can't be right. Verizon would not do that at this time of day.

Re: DVR keeps crashing

My STB is constantly crashing.  By that, I mean the picture and sound get scrambled and then a screen with channel unavailable.  I have troubleshooted the problem and rebooted the STB many times during the last month.  I contacted Verizon via live chat a few days ago and they rebooted my STB and also fixed "a few network glitches".  That was the tech's quote and said I wouldn't have anymore issues.  NOT!

The problem continues.  Does the STB need replacement or are there other issues?  I rarely get this problem with my DVR.  Please help.

Re: DVR keeps crashing

You mention both a STB and a DVR, and that the DVR is OK while the STB seems to be the glitchy one. Is that correct? If so, switch the two units out to see if the problem stays with the box or might be attributed to the coax line. If the STB stays troublesome, then looks like a bad unit. The easiest exchange route for me has been to troop down to a local store and swap it out over the counter. If the problem lies in the coax line, start with all connections from the TV and work back through the wiring. Make sure all connections are tight everywhere, no kinks in the line, no superfluous splitters. Is the coax RG6? If all your wiring checks good, then you may need a service call, as it could be the ONT. A bad splitter might be the culprit, too, and is pretty cheap and easy to replace. Be sure to get a splitter suitable for VZ.
