what are the 4 colored buttons marked A, B, C, and D on the bottom of the FIOS remote for? Any reason why they are 4 different shapes?

Shapes really mean nothing. Each letter is for an option such as if you pull the guide up you'll see in the lower left it says "b" search. If you hit b in the guide the search function will come up
a pulls up widgets, c is for switching to hd channels when on sd channels and I dont believe d does anything.
