Fios Self Install

A little history. I currently have Comcast for internet and TV. I recently had my copper Verizon phone upgraded to fiber optic for free due to wiring problems. Once that was complete, I started getting promotional letters saying that I was able to order self install if I upgraded my service.

I just placed and order for Triple Play and self install. All the research that I have done starts with the wiring already hooked up to the ONT. Since I only have my phone hooked to the ONT, how would I do the self install? I noticed inside there is a coaxial and ethernet port. Would I just connect to the coaxial port and go from there? I plan on using the same coaxial cables already ran though out my house and to the comcast cable modem. Does anyone see a problem with this? It's a pain, but I could rewire all the rooms to new RG6 if needed.

Thanks,

You do not need to rewire the entire house unless you really want. All you need to do is connect a coax line from the ONT to the main splitter. At the main splitter you would disconnect the Comcast line that come from the pole and connect the coax line from the ONT. After that just replace the cable boxes and connect the router to a coax line. You will want to get the router working before powering the cable boxes.

If you cannot get the coax line from ONT to main splitter, call Verizon and they will send a tech.

You won't be using the Comcast cable modem.  You will be using an Actiontec router provided by Verizon. It has a coax port that is used to communicate to the ONT and set-top-boxes.  Just do as hippis said and connect your already existing coax network to the ONT and be sure to disconnect the coax feed from Comcast.

Enjoy!

Thank you, This is what I was hoping. The comcast line goes across my garage to a point where the phone line from the ONT goes into the house. I was going run a short RG6 from the ONT to this point and cut the comcast line and connect the Verizon line. Then I would follow the self install instructions. Does this sound good? I was thinking of replacing the existing coaxial since it is a bit old. If I can just connect to the existing wiring now, then I can take my time rewiring when the weather isn't like 5 degrees outside.
