Hi Threecoldnoses,
The way to get rid of the full screen ads that disrupt the pathway to the Guide and DVR is:
Menu > Settings > Television > Interactive TV > Disable > OK
Menu > Settings > Television > Recommendations > Turn Off > OK > Exit
I think that the second one is the one that actually does it, but I don't miss the on-screen interactive stuff that pops up on channels like CNN and History either.

You are very welcome Threecoldnoses. Glad I could help. I'm sure I probably didn't discover that cure on my own. After all, who would ever link the word "Recommendations" to full-screen advertisements that block the user from doing what they wanted to do? But I've been using it so long that I no longer remember who deserves the credit.
Since making these setting changes, I have only received one full-screen message. But it was actually informative about some changes Verizon was making. I'm guessing that it may have been allowed through because of my PopUp Alerts setting being left enabled. But since it was actually something important to know, I was glad to be interrupted. That and it didn't take 30 seconds to load either.
