Hiding the Set Top Box (STB) - What kind of cables do I need?

I want to place my HD DVR STB in a nearby closet.  Will probably require 15-20 feet of cable to be safe.  I came across several different terms (Emitter, Blaster, RF, etc) but wasn't sure what I need.  This is a simple set up - just the cable box so that I can continue to use the Verizon Fios remote.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You will need an RG6 coax long enough to reach the closet (the cable from Verizon to the STB)

You will need a cable to go from the STB to the TV. (HDMI or Component for HD /  composite or coax for SD)

Then you will need an IR extender so that you can use your remote.  Something like THIS

I think the link is for just a extension emitter (~$15) for the main transmitter unit. The main system (receiver and transmitter) is about 30 bucks. The extender is only added to the transmitting unit if it cannot be conveniently placed in front of the controlled device (STB too close behind a closet door, etc..). Although I would imagine there are enough reflections in a small space to make it work ok even if it isn't in front.

The one I posted is for a "wired" extender. One end plugs into the back of the STB and the other end sits in the room where the TV is. There are others that are the wireless styles.  Like THIS. I was just giving an example. It all depends on how fancy you want to get.

Actually that was for a transmitter extender, not a receiver and it must be used per the following from the link:

  • Emitter connects between Powermid receiver and A/V equipment in a closed cabinet
  • Powermid receiver required and sold separately

It does not plug into the STB. It plugs into the Powermid receiver jack and the other end gets "stuck" to the front of the STB. There are other devices that perform the STB IR receiver function, such as This one. However be aware that this particular one does not work with 64xx DVR's.
