I assume this is handled through verizon since it isn't in the settings on hbo's site. Do I change my password through verizon somehow?

HBO Go uses your verizon email and password.
You can't have a separate one just for HBO GO.
I beleive that sub accounts can also log in to HBO GO.
So you could create a sub account with a different name and password if you don't want people to have access to your normal email account.
