[ Edited ]

So does this mean that us poor suckers who played by the rules and paid the $39.99 should be entitled to a refund?!  If I knew that I could have just driven up to the Verizon Local Presence Center, I would have done that first.....

Re: How to request an upgrade to QIP7232

Not likely to get a refund.

.  And I would hardly characterize those who swapped units via the Verizon Store as having violate the rules. The real problem is that Verizon hasn't been exactly forthcoming about what the rules are, or that they actually had 7232's in relatively large numbers in the Verizon stores.

The $39.95 Verizon charges to do this outside the Verizon store probably doesn't even cover their costs. When you go through the store, they don't incur door to door shipping costs, and costs of packing, unpacking, and handling.  So I doubt Verizon is getting wealthy on the $39.95 exchange price.

However I do wish Verizon had been more forthcoming about the ability to swap these units at the local Verizon store. I was quite surprised to learn that not only did the store have the 7232's in stock, they had plenty of them, and they had been in stock for literally months! I found out only because I was in the store for other reasons, and thought to ask aobut the availability of the 7232 boxes. I was more than a little surprised at the answer.

Admittedly there are lots of us where the distance to the store may make this impractical, in which case the $39.95 option is really the only choice.

Re: How to request an upgrade to QIP7232

And to add, I happened to have the day off work for another reason and the store was 30-mins away.  There and back, a good hour of my time, some gas, etc.  Had to get my 2 kids ready (a 3-year old and an 18-month old) and into the car.  Another 15-mins there.

Don't get me wrong, I was pleased to get it in the store, but I did previously attempt to do it on-line and just couldn't (see previous posts).  I messed around with that for another 30-mins or so.  So up to about 2-hrs for my "free" STB?

Anyway, long story short, while pleased with the result, I don't think I entirely cheated the system :-)

Re: How to request an upgrade to QIP7232

I tried the store method and they told me they don't have them in stock and that I have to go the web route. I submitted my email about a week ago and haven't received a response from Verizon yet. I'm trying to avoid calling but I may have too.

Give it more time. It usually takes about 6-8 weeks (at the moment) to get a resonse. The web route means that you are placed on a waiting list and as they become available the customers are notified on a first come first serve.

While many stores do have them in stock and are swapping them out for customers, most stores dont have them in stock (as you found out) which is why the forums keep pointing to the web method. The waiting list is the only sure way of getting one. Going to the store is a YMMV situation.

Re: How to request an upgrade to QIP7232

From my experience and what I've read, I would say the store swap method is YMMV.  I recently tried to swap in-store in DFW area and was not given the opportunity.  Had to go the web route.  Perhaps the VHO areas first receiving the 1.9 IMG have stocked their stores and trucks while the areas slated to get 1.9 much later have not made the new boxes available locally.
