IR remote input

I have a 7216 STB that has a 1/8" jack labelled "ir remote input. I read on the boards that in 2008 it was not enabled. I just got mine from Verizon last week. Is it currently enabled. And if not what do I need to get so I can control the 7216 without opening the cabinet doors it is in?

that port is enabled on the 7216. it's not enabled on the 6416 model.

So you should be able to use it succesfully.   I got mine for free when i called into tech support about it, but you would have to wait 3-5 days to have it mailed.   or you can go to a store and buy one out of pocket.

Is there a wire out there that will connect the IR input on the STB to the IR output on a slingbox? Is that type of setup possible?

that set up is possible with 6200 and 6416 stb's but not the 7000 series,  like the 7100 or 7216

I thought that port wasn't active on the 6xxxx STBs, though? I guess my bigger issue is actually finding a wire that would connect the two; most IR wires I've seen have the emitters on one end.

yeah it's definetly enabled on the 6xxx series boxes

 they use it a lot to control VCR's and DVD players that have the IR deal, so I would imagine it would work with a sling box too.

Any idea where I could find a wire that plugs directly into the STB and Slingbox IR port though? The only ones I can find online have emitters on one end, but presumably you wouldn't need those if you could directly connect the IR output to the IR input.

radio shack is my best guess, but I am not 100% sure.  you can also try monoprice.com   they do cables cheap and they have a million of em
