Just received a 6416 DVR and now $40 to "upgrade"?

I'm trying to resolve and getting more and more frustrated!!

Background: I went to the Amherst store and picked up a DVR, when I got home a family member said this was an old 6416 model (apparently everyone on this board says they're not being used anymore!!).  When I called customer service they said that I would have to pay $40 to upgrade?

Is this standard policy??  I'm so irritated now...could I / should I have received the new model originally? Or would I have have had to pay the $40 regardless?

I kinda think the 6416 has a free upgrade through the menu.

Check menu > customer support > in home agent > set top box upgrade

That one is older and their 6xxx and 2500 series set top boxes were getting that upgrade option due to the mpeg4 channels that they won't ever see.

Issuing the 6xxx series of boxes to a new customer is a poor practise. Infact, no one should be receiving the 6xxx boxes at all. To issue one for new service knowing there is likely to be an unsatisfactory experience, and then tell the customer they need to pay an additional $40 for a new box seems sleazy. Time to retire the 6xxx boxes for good.

I agree with you 100%. If they want to give me a Aurora set top box there should not be a charge for it. The bundle price is already ridiculous.

I for one am considering going to another service. I refuse to be nickel and dimmed to death and that is what this is.

I wanted to contact them by email but that is near impossible as well. Why are doing this to your faithful Following?
