We just bought a gently used Mitsubishi TV Model LT-52133. This model has an "easy connect" function where it is supposed to recognize and automatically connect input devices. When we plug the coaxial cable into either of the two the HDMI ports, absolutely nothing happens. The TV does not appear to recognize the FIOS STB at all.
We previously had a very old, box TV, and we are using the same FIOS (STB) box and the same cable. We wondered if the box has to be re-setup or possibly the cable is an issue. The FIOS technical support on the phone was pretty useless - kept telling me to put it on channel 3. No channel selection actually appears on this model of TV until the input connection is made. The person we bought the TV from had it playing Comcast from a coaxial cable, so the ports must work. They just appear not to work with FIOS. Any ideas? Help!

This function obviously is not working if it is not seeing the FIOS box. The box has not been moved or anything and was previously working on the last TV so we can very likely rule out the box as the problem. To verify this, you can temporarily hook back up the old TV to prove the box is functional

This is an impossible feat. A coax cord can not plug into an HDMI port. It seems as if this is a wiring problem of how you have the box hooked up to the TV. For any way that you are hooking this up, the box needs to receive a feed. This is done with a coax cord from the wall outlet to the back of the box where it says "RFIN" or "FIOS TV IN". The connection from the box tot he TV will be different depending on your situation. If you have an HD TV and a HD box from Verizon, then your preferred connection method will be HDMI. There is only 1 HDMI plug in the back of the Verizon box. Plug one end of the cord into there, the other end into one of the HDMI slots of the TV. Both TV and box are not HD, then you can use a coax cord if you like. It screws onto the back of the box where it says "To TV/VCR" or "RF TV OUT" and the other end into the back of the TV where it says (and all TV's call it different things) either ANT, ANTENNA, RFIN, COAX IN.
I know you said that the TV "auto sets" the input so I am not sure how this process works. For more information on that you will need to contact the TV manufacturer. If you are using the HDMI connection, the TV needs to be on one of the HDMI inputs. If you are using the coax cord, then your TV needs to be set to channel 3.

Yes it must have worked at one time, but stopped for some reason. I don't know if that's why they were trying to sell it, if the moving it from one location to another was the final straw that broke the camels back, or if by unplugging it from power a special procedure needs to go through to set the TV settings back up (the TV manufacturer would be better at answering that question).

If you're talking about "auto-detect" which is a feature some TV's have which will detect the most recently activating video signal being received on it's inputs and automatically switch to it for viewing -- then this will not work in many cases with the FiOS STB because it always leaves the video active -- even when turned off. You will need to instruct the TV to select the particular HDMI input into which the box has been connected -- some TV's with this feature have a way to indicate a "default" input to be used if multiple ones are active when it's turned on or a given input goes away and if so, you should select the HDMI input being used for the FiOS box as the default.

You say you're plugging a coax cable into either of the two HDMI ports? That's impossible. Coax connectors and coax input ports and HDMI connectors and HDMI input ports are totally different. If you're trying to connect the RF output of the STB with a coax input to the TV, then you need to ensure that you have enabled the coax output on the STB. I could not find the owner manual for you model TV on the Mitsubishi web site.
