I am having a number of frustrating issues and hoping I can get some direction. My AV rack is in a closet. I currently use a Universal Remote Control MSC-400 to provide RF to my closet. I have an IR flasher from a port on the MSC-400 to the front of the Motorola box.
In a nutshell, I want to eliminate the flasher and go from the MSC-400 directly to the IR Remote input jack on the Motorola box. Is this possible? If so, what type of cable should I use? I tried a 1/8" mono cable but that did not seem to do the trick. Is there a stereo cable or something different? (I do not have any wires outside of the closet, so IR extenders are not a solution) Do I have to change something in the settings of the STB?
In addition, I programmed favorite channels to be used, but sometimes the numbers are not picked up successfully, such as 0-6-8-0 will show as 0-8-0 or some such thing. I am not sure if this is because my universal remote (MX-980) is not picking up the channels successfully, so I am looking to load the codes directly to the remote, so I am looking for hex codes or a mxf file for the Motorola box.
Can anyone provide some guidance or assistance? It would be very much appreciated!

Is that an input jack? The manual for my Motorola QIP6416 DVR calls it an output jack, used to control a vcr: "Enables DCT to control a VCR while recording a selected program"
...and the Interface/ Port status screen refers to it as "IR XMIT"
...but the QIP7100 manual calls it an input...looks like one may be wrong.

The Motorola 7000 series boxes can use an IR receiver wire input on the rear of the STB.

the 6416 won't do it, like the other poster said that is an output.
the 7xxx series will do it, as they have an IR Input

My A/V components are in a closet. If I order a 7XXX box (one that has an IR Input jack) and buy an IR extender, will I be able to keep my the set top box in the A/V closet? Is it that easy? Or, am I missing something?
