Motorola QIP7100 2 Set Top Box - No Guide, No On Demand...

[ Edited ]

I just had my FiOS service transferred today and the technician brought a few of the new Motorola QIP7100 2's all of those boxes seem to be producing problems.  I can't access the guide it says "No Data" for everything, and when you try to use on deman it gives a message about please check your router.  In my room I have an older Motorola QIP7100 1 and have no issues what so ever.  Any ideas?

Login into your router and see if the new stbs are in your device list

They will be in the My Network panel in the middle of the first page and should show up as IP-STB connected MoCA with an ip address.

If they are not there then there is something wrong with the coax connections to them.

If they are there then select firewall settings and port forwarding and check for port forwarding rules to those ip addresses from Verizon FIOS Service.

It does take a little while for the initial guide load.

Re: Motorola QIP7100 2 Set Top Box - No Guide, No On Demand...

My experience with this type of issue is that the STBs are not getting an IP from the router. You can verify that easily on the STBs by going into the Menu, going to Settings, System Information, and see if it has a Network Status of Online. If it doesn't, re-booting the router will probably fix it. If that doesn't fix it, then try re-booting the STB also.

If nothing these guys suggested helps (not likely).....do you by any chance have a long cable (or defective) to the 2 problem STB's? I had this problem using a 120 ft coax to one box and had to adjust the connection method. A defective (or wrong type) cable could have the same effect.

Re: Motorola QIP7100 2 Set Top Box - No Guide, No On Demand...

I just went through this with Verizon.  It was the crap Motorola QIP7100 2 set top box.  Tech left after two hours.

background:

Started with just phone, upgraded to triple-play, that gave me a new account #.

Got the self-install stuff, hooked it up.

Internet worked fine.

TV was working, but it said I wasn't subscribed to certain channels (e.g. NHL network).

Guide not working.

I checked my order, my channel plan was correct.

Called verizon.

Explained that my channels weren't working.

They homed in on the "LAN Coax" light being off on the router.

Thereafter, Verizon support was OCD on the coax cables being bad.

They scheduled a tech visit.

I took everything apart, went down to the basement, hooked up splitter, router and stb directly to ONT using the coax connectors that Verizon provided in the self-install kit.  Eliminated my house wires completely.

ONT "MoCA" was green and blinking (meaning good signal, and data activity).  All the other lites were green.

Recycled (reset/reboot) both Router and STB.

Still nothing.

Set it all back up in my LR, no change.

The Monday after I got the self-install, suddenly my channels were working (no help from Verizon support on that one).  Called Verizon tech support to report the change and find out if they can send a tech out sooner.  The tech on the phone was also OCD on the cables being the problem, even after I told him I was using their cables and splitters.

No guide until the tech showed up.

He did the same thing that I did, connected it all directly to the ONT.  He put his phone on speaker, then called in for help. The guy on the phone was snippy with their own tech, again all OCD on cables and splitters.

The service tech got another STB from the truck, hooked it all together, and viola, it works.

To all those Verizon phone techs:  IT'S THE BOX, DUMMY!

No clock in a set top box is as smart as keeping non HD channels in the line-up just to spew that you offer over 300 channels. The non HD channels are useless, do not display proper size on a wide screen HD TV, and are extremely blurry.

I counted about 50 HD channels of which only about 20 are worth watching.  FIOS1 news and weather sucks. So we are paying for crappy news and 20 channels. We got that back in 1970 for free. When are people going to wake up?

I guess you don't see that this thread is from 2010.

Why would you count the HD channels AFTER you have service? Wouldn't it have made sense to check the channels you'd be getting before getting service?

I hear ya CO...these QIP7100 2 STBs are not very good.  First of all the manual they sent in the box IS NOT for the STB units they sent me.  I'm on my second set because the first 2 they sent me didn't work.  The second pair appear to be working.  I guess we'll see how long they last.  What the heck was Verizon thinking removing the display and front panel buttons?  Maybe they were following an old saying that sometimes LESS is really MORE.   This is one case where less ISN'T more...it really is LESS...a lot LESS !!!!  I wonder if Verizon will let me switch to the older HD STBs that my friend have...they seem to work well and have lasted for years !!!!!
