Im not a "high tech" type person to start with, Im just trying to keep up.
Is there anyway to move a recorded show from my FIOS DVR to a DVD so I could give it to someone to watch. I understand that you sort of frowned on if it was a movie, but it was a broadcast news special. It would be great to save some items to something other than the Verizon DVR.
As I opened with, I'm not a high tech type so if anyone has a suggestion please use plain english and avoid acronyms. Thanks in advance for your help.

You can always get a DVD Recorder and put it in line with the output of the DVR, then record a DVD while you watch the program on the DVR.
It will be somewhat lower quality
You have to do it in real time, meaning: if it's a 1 hour program, it will take 1 hour to record.
You cannot 'download' the program to a PC and then later burn it to a DVD.
I hear there is a way to connect a PC through the Firewire port on the DVR (if there is one) and record on a PC that way, but it's still in real time, meaning you have to watch the DVR program to record it.

I record programs like movies all the time from my DVR to the pc. I use a Hauppauge PVR (about $200) unit that connects to the component jacks on the DVR and to the USB port on the pc. You can record anything that the DVR can play, live or playback. That way you get HD, unlike a DVD recorder which can only record in SD. Of course the files are generally too big to put on a DVD. It works with Windows Media Center as well as it's own program (you choose). It also has an IR blaster that will set the channel when needed.
