I just got Fios TV today and when I press the On Demand button on the remote it turns my LG42 LCD TV off and on.   Is there any way to fix this at all?  I did a google search and looked on these forums but I have not been able to find any answers.  I did reprogram the remote with no luck..  Anyone have any ideas?

did you reprogram it with one of the other codes?

some codes work perfectly while others work partially.  so if you have a code entered that is doing that, I would try one of the other codes, in fact all of them to see if they all do that.

LG 0205, 0727, 0883, 1205, 1292, 3004, 3145

Reprogramming the remote is unlikely to be helpful. The problem is the command for the DVR (which the codes have no effect on) is activating the TV. I.e. The IR command to the DVR for On Demand is sufficiently close (or identical) to the On/Off command for the TV, that it is also operating the TV.

I suspect the only realistic fix is wait for Verizon to come out with another brand of DVR (like the Cisco/Scientific ATlanta unit that is in the works), or using something else that has completely different remote codes, like a TiVO or Moxi DVR.

Unfortunately I would have to agree with "jmw1950"

Here is an idea I am not sure about Verizon Fios however Comcast always had very old set top boxes laying around and if you had a problem with device failure they always tried sluffing off there old box on you. In fact twice I had to refuse there 15 year old box and insist I get the recent box model. If Verizon has older boxes laying around this could work to your advantage. You could call Verizon and ask if they have older/any other set top models of boxes that used a different remote and explain your situation. If they do they would probably be excited to give you an older model of box instead. The key here is the remote and the signals used to the set top box MUST be different. There is a chance you could get a different box with a different looking remote and have the same problem.

Either way let me know what you came up with I'm curious.

well that isn't entirely true, for example some codes will control mute or input while others won't, so the codes do have an effect on what buttons will work and what will do what.   he may have a code that is thinking the on demand button is a power button, while using another code may not do that.

its just a thought, I could be way off, and I'm willing to accept that, but Its still unclear to me based on your guys answers that it won't work.

Hubrisnxs, I say anything is worth trying so he should give your suggestion a shot why not. Now let me explain why we say it won't work. The "On Demand" button is a universal button not applicable to TV, DVD, etc. So if you change the remote to say the DVD control mode and press the "On Demand" button the "On Demand" button is activated just the same as if you were in "STB" control mode. This is done out of convenience by the remote since the "On Demand" button serves no purpose in DVD mode. Because this button is not applicable to any other device it is also not programmable. The STB is hard coded to always look for that exact signal.

This all means the frequency of signal sent out with that button never changes. Since programming the remote changes the frequency of signal to adapt to the device versus adapting the device to adjust to the remote and the "On Demand" button is universal no matter what output mode you are in training the remote won't help.

Now if the problem happened when he pressed say the number 1 button it would be a whole other story and you would be correct that retraining the remote could help.

Let me try an example of what is going on here:

You have a park full of children. Normally all of the children have different names. When a parent calls out Jake only the child named Jake responds. But if you have 2 children in the park named Jake you have a problem when a parent calls out Jake come here. In this example the child can not change there name and is indifferent to the voice of the parent who called. Jake 1 is the TV, Jake 2 is the STB on demand feature, and the parent is the remote.
